Important changes to legacy TrueSTUDIO (<=5.3.1) licenses

Posted by Mattias Norlander on Apr 24, 2018 8:48:00 AM

This information is only relevant for customers of TrueSTUDIO v.5.3.1 Pro and earlier versions.

What is changing?

The license server hosted by Atollic allowing license activation of old products will soon be taken out of service. This only affects Atollic TrueSTUDIO Pro v.5.3.1 and earlier versions. Later versions use a new license system which is still maintained by Atollic / STMicroelectronics.

How does this affect me?

Already installed/activated licenses for Atollic TrueSTUDIO Pro v.5.3.1 and earlier will continue to run just like before this change. The difference is that after the license server has been taken out of service, end of May, it will no longer be possible to activate licenses for the affected versions. This is required in the following scenarios:

  • Install TS on a new computer
  • Troubleshoot a corrupted TS license on any computer
  • Re-install TS on the same computer
  • Move a license to a different computer

What should I do?

We recommend moving to a later version which still is maintained by Atollic / STMicroelectronics as soon as possible. See recommendations below:

  • STM32 users are recommended to move to the latest version of TrueSTUDIO for STM32.
  • Non-STM32 users are recommended to move to TrueSTUDIO for ARM v.8.1.0.

It is still possible to build the TrueSTUDIO project with an old GCC toolchain, please consult the TrueSTUDIO for ARM User Guide, chapter CHANGING TOOLCHAIN VERSION. Also consult the TrueSTUDIO Upgrade Guide while migrating your project. All documentation is available inside TrueSTUDIO --> Help --> Information Center.

The old license servers will be shut down end of may. Please send any questions related to this change to
